What AI Can't StealSomewhere in the last two years, a quiet fear started showing up in conversations with clients who'd never have admitted to it before. Founders. CMOs. People who'd built real careers on being the smartest person in the room. The fear isn't that AI will take their job tomorrow. It's subtler than that. It's the sense that the thing they spent decades getting good at (having sharp opinions, writing clearly, being strategic) is now something a machine can produce in seconds, competently, for free. They're not wrong about the timing in seconds. They're wrong about what it threatens. I've spent thirty years building brands across markets, industries, and cultures I couldn't have predicted when I started. None of that experience is reproducible by a model, no matter how large. Not because the model isn't clever. Because experience isn't an information problem. It's a residual memory - a foundational bedrock - what's left in you after a decision went well, or moreso after something went wrong, after a client trusted you with something fragile, after you said the harder true thing instead of the easier comfortable one. AI can simulate a form of wisdom. It can produce a sentence that sounds hard-won. What it cannot do is have actually paid for it.This matters more than it might seem, because the instinct under threat is to compete with AI on its terms: produce more, produce faster, sound smarter on demand. That's a battle you lose by definition. It was never your terrain to begin with. The better instinct, and the one I'd encourage in anyone feeling that quiet unease: go further into what only you have. The specific client story. The decision nobody else was in the room for. The slightly imperfect sentence that's unmistakably yours rather than smoothly, anonymously correct. Intelligence has become cheap. Judgment didn't. Lived experience didn't. The particular, hard-earned thing only your thirty years (or your ten, or your five) actually produced. That's not under threat. If anything, it's becoming the only thing left worth paying for. What's the one thing in your work that no amount of intelligence, artificial or otherwise, could have produced without you actually living it? Warmly, Peter If you're ready to go deeper into what makes your business judgment robust, the CBO Masterclass was built for exactly this.
